Re: Impact of For all entries ( FAE ) in HANA

Hi Lars

Let me further explain my question .

I'm trying to analyze the mandatory steps ( for the Z programs ) to be applied if any Business Suites is upgrading and Migrating to to HANA ( NO OPTIMIZATION ). As per my understanding, here are the MANDATORY TECHNICAL steps

1. Cluster table - usage of physical cluster

2. Cluster table - default sorting issue

3. Transparent table - default sorting issue ( latest )

4. Replacement of DB specific features like HINTS , Native SQL etc.

Now,the reason I'm asking more information on the FAE in HDB are given below

1. The note 1662726 does not clearly say the FAE will be "More poor" in hanadb . by going through the note descriptions, it seems like that FAE performance is already poor ( which is correct ) and using HANA DB hints, or JOIN you can improve it . In that case this is NOT a mandatory steps for migration to HANADB without Optimization. We need better insight on this.

2. If you see the above steps suggested by SAP, it does not cover FAE. That means performance of FAE is not more bad compare to older DB. It is already BAD and may be in HANA DB it will remain same if special changes are not taken care of .

3. As per my experience, and also what Ram Bajaj mentioned above that performance of FAE is still bettercompare to other other DB .

So, I need some confirmation/better insight that if we just want to migrate to HANADB ( NO OPTIMIZATION) then changing FAE is an optional step and which is required only when we have to improve to performance . For any upgrade/migration we want to compare apple-to-apple , i.e., when older and newer systems are behaving same way, we confirm that migration.upgrade is successful .

I hope that now I'm clear about my question. Please let me know if still it is unclear .

Regards

Gairik
